Justin’s article, “Inspirations from Qinghai: Chinese Folk Song in Bright Sheng’s Concertino for Clarinet” was featured in the September 2016 issue of The Clarinet. This article explores the musical collaboration between Bright Sheng and David Shifrin during the commissioning process and is based on the research completed at the University of Michigan for his Certificate in Musicology.

Congratulations to student Alex Choi for winning special honors at the Georgia Music Teachers Association Auditions on April 9 at the University of Georgia! In addition to being selected as an Outstanding Performer, he earned the top score in the woodwinds category for grades 9-11 and was selected as the Conference Recitalist. Alex performed at the GMTA conference at Wesleyan College in Macon in November 2016.

Congratulations to Cathy and Patrick Stanton, two of my students at the Music Conservatory of Westchester, for performing at Carnegie Hall’s Weill Recital Hall on Saturday, February 21 for the Royal Conservatory’s Music Development Program’s 2015 Tri-State Certificate of Excellence Recital. Both students earned special recognition on their 2015 assessments and were invited to perform on this prestigious program. This marks Patrick’s debut at Carnegie Hall and Cathy’s return.
